Children are growing faster than we can remember. Were kids always so full of growth-spurt potential? With the exception of Daniel Radcliffe, the entire world seems to be talking down to me (literally). Not that I actually get to talk to Daniel Radcliffe, because if that was the case, my list of things to do would include much cooler objectives than buying new socks.

In our world, it's pretty much in the Good Parent manual that you document your kid's height, by writing it down, taking adorable pictures, or recording them in spreadsheets. Because if you don't, well, just don't join the PTA okay?

Rio & Kungfu Panda 2

I have been wanting to ask my wonderful online friends for the longest time, have you brought your kids to see Rio and Kungfu Panda 2 yet???
Those are literally my 2 favourite movies of the year besides X-Men. I can't even begin to explain how much I loved Rio. It's my go-to happy movie :) There really is nothing not to love about it. Colourful, amazing songs with Jamie Foxx, Will.i.am and more, wonderful cast (Jesse Eisenberg, Anne Hathaway etc.) and happy endings. Everyone from age 0-80 can enjoy it, I assure you. The plot is fast paced, the characters are endearing to say the least and it's from the creators of Ice Age so I'm sure that gives you enough confidence to have a go.

I also thought Kungfu Panda 2 was wayyy better than the first movie. Stomach-clutchingly funny and first-rate action movie type plot.

Shut the computer, turn off the Blackberry and have a ball with your kids this weekend with these movies! :)

Richard Dawkins' Kids Book

Even though most people don't believe it, I actually majored in Anthropology for a reason- interest. I really do enjoy it even though 80% of the time it drives me absolutely nuts. One of the most famous theorists we've studied is Richard Dawkins. He has the most fascinating and intellectually stimulating concepts about the world and I always get excited starting on his books. But I'm just not patient enough for such strenuous reading (which was also when I decided that I'm not meant for an academic career)! So when I found out that he was writing a children's book that aims to teach them about critical thinking and the scientific method, I was thrilled. I much prefer the children's version of anything too smartypants because it's concise, I get the gist quickly, and you get to seem like you're smart for knowing difficult concepts :D

And oh yea, it's great for kids too!

I really think that one of the best gifts that parents can give their children is a house of some sort. A tree house, a shed that is turned into their private "kids only" club house, or even a doll house! I remember my parents gave me a doll house with accompanying miniature furniture and I was ecstatic for the next few months. Plus, I became un-characteristically obedient for a while. Till this day, my parents still say it's the best thing they've gotten me ;)

Planetarim Egg-Shaped Night Lamp

I used to be terrified of the dark when I was a kid. No thanks to my classmates who used to spook me with ghost stories.
Anyway, my Dad got me these adorable night lamps that would "chase all the monsters away", and it made me feel a lot safer. Since then, night lamps have evolved from cute to technologically advanced and awe-inspiring.

But this playroom. Wow. So different from the crowd! It immediately stands out to me. It has such a vintage, English home vibe, and I love it.

Isn't it magical? I just watched the Mary Poppins musical a few days ago, and this just reminds me so much of Jane and Micheal's room! I'm really glad some families are trying to keep the fun of old toys around, like the rocking horse, wooden animal farm, and hobby horses (hung up neatly, of course).

Little Styles is definitely one my favourite online shops for kids. They have the sweetest clothes ever! Sometimes I feel that kids fashion can be a little too... adult-like. They definitely look nice but can come off a little too mature for their age. Everything at Little Styles is super age appropriate and gives me a very Strawberry Shortcake vibe :) Every single outfit seems to go well with a wicker basket and some juicy strawberry pickings!

Books that Promote Cultural Awareness

Kids books are such a delight, don't you think? They're very often colorful, meaningful and sentimental. Recently, there's an influx of books that aim to convey awareness and the embracing of other cultures. As an Asian living in Australia, I'm all for multiculturalism and expanding your horizons a little. It's always great to try and understand people from all kinds of backgrounds.
Parents just posted a list of books on their website that teaches kids about the world, and here are some of my favourites.

There are also some fun and educational games from around the world that you can play with your kids to encourage awareness of other cultures. Head here for some ideas.

Peanut Butter Soba Noodles

Lucky featured a recipe for Peanut Butter Soba noodles a few days ago. It sounds a bit strange but I'm sure kids will Woot! just at the sound of peanut butter. Arrange it with the wholemeal bread and hard boiled egg owl and you've got your kids cleaning out their lunch boxes and asking for more.

Peanut Butter Soba Noodles

1 garlic clove
1 small piece fresh peeled ginger
1/2 cup smooth peanut butter 2/3 cup warm water
1 1/2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon Asian sesame oil
1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
1/2 to 1 teaspoon sugar to 1 teaspoon red chile flakes (to taste)
2 eggs
1 pound of udon noodles

1. To make the peanut butter sauce: With the motor running, drop the garlic and ginger in the bowl of a food processor until finely chopped. Add peanut butter, water, soy sauce, sesame oil, vinegar, sugar, and chile flakes and process until smooth.

2. Consider this your no-fail hard-boiled egg technique: Add the eggs to a pot of water then bring it to a boil. As soon as it comes to a boil, cover the pot and remove from heat. Let it sit exactly twelve minutes. Drain and allow it to cool.

3. Peel the eggs.

4. Toss the peanut butter sauce with a pound of cooked udon noodles (follow package instructions) and top with your peeled hard-boiled eggs.

I have been discovering some really amazing baking sites lately. I mean, which kid won't go gaga over these Mr Potato Head and Hamm cake pops? This would be fantastic for a kid's Toy Story themed birthday party. I'm already silently squealing (in a lecture hall with 50 other people at the moment and am clearly not really paying attention to the lecturer) inside. Kazam Evolutionary Desk

Today I came across something really cool. This.

Any guesses? No?
Well, it's a morphed, super high-tech table, very aptly named the Kazam Evolutionary Desk. It was created with the idea of the growing child in mind. Which is why the Kazam allows for 3 different adjustable levels so you won't have to throw out any desks that are filled with memories. "Remember the time you wanted to draw on my face and you slipped and made a large, non-erasable scrawl on the table instead?"

Also a possible height chart for the new age. "Yay Mum I'm at the 2nd level of Kazam now!"
